Construction underway at SR 85/123 interchange

A $25.1 million transportation improvement project is underway in Okaloosa County to upgrade the SR 85/123 interchange. The corridor is a major connector between Fort Walton Beach and the northern Okaloosa communities of Crestview, Niceville and Valparaiso.

More than 30,000 drivers use SR 85/123 daily for commuting to Eglin AFB, for access to Northwest Florida Regional Airport, and to visit the coastal beaches at Okaloosa Island and Destin.

State Road 85 and State Road 123 also comprise a key coastal evacuation route in the event of a hurricane or other natural or manmade emergency.

The SR 85/123 construction initiative is being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Economists estimate that approximately 1,300 jobs will be either created or sustained by the construction activities.

This Web site will keep you informed on the latest construction news, planned lane closures and other potential traffic impacts.
